I just bought a book called Here Are The Monsters for a kid that's read the entire Philip Pullman trilogy. In fact our first conversation was a critical analysis of the series. Our agreed conclusion was that The Amber Spyglass was both overrated and disappointing. But he's seven, so I'm sure Monsters will go over well. I hope. It will, won't it?

He's actually one half of my meal ticket right now. While I'm making attempts at authoring and freelancing, and embarking on art projects that are funny to me and the people I'm conducting them with only (such as a short film about the German attitude towards finding a new flatmate [with my German friend Sybille, so this level of stereotyping's ok]), I'm doing the school run for a pair of crazy vegetarian socialist legal aid lawyers who long ago made it their policy to only permit lesbian lodgers to occupy their loft. They're a great family, though Matthew thinks their children are the spawn of me. Like someone cloned me ten years ago and created these two insanely literary children with social consciences the size of the African countries they buoycott on behalf of.

Anyway, some word on the Lula front and none of it good. She's getting worse, not better and is going to be staying put for a little longer. This is maddening for all. More to come on that one later, right now I've got to go pick one of the sprogs up from his after school art class.
